Mr. Bill Curtin, II, and his wife, Eleanor, opened a telephone answering service in 1947. While running their business, Mr. C invented solutions to address the shortfalls of telecommunication technology. When the 1968 Federal Commission’s ruling in the Carterfone case meant equipment supplied by non-telephone operating companies could be used, it provided an opportunity for Mr. and Mrs. C to sell the products Mr. C developed. Amtelco was founded in 1976 and quickly became a trusted name in teleservices.

Amtelco celebrated its 50th anniversary with current and past employees, their families, and the Curtin family at Barnwood Events in Madison, Wisconsin. Employees donned their specially made Amtelco Hawaiian shirts and enjoyed time together.

An energetic live band provided entertainment, and food carts from four popular local businesses were sponsored by Amtelco so everyone could enjoy free food and drinks. Games included giant Jenga, inflatables, corn hole, and yard dice. Employee names were drawn at random throughout the evening to play “Cash Plinko” and have a chance to win cash prizes.

Tom Curtin, Amtelco’s CEO & Chairman, said, “The recognition of this incredible milestone spans a range of emotions, thoughts, and reflections – both personally and professionally. I feel a deep gratitude to my father and mother, who founded Amtelco, a profound appreciation for the dedication of current and former employees, and overwhelming thankfulness and respect for our customers.”

Amtelco’s Social Committee organized a raffle fundraiser for prizes donated by both employees and Amtelco. The raffle raised $2,425 for Briarpatch Youth Services, and with Amtelco’s company match, a donation of $4,850 was sent to support Briarpatch’s continued work serving youth and families throughout Dane County.
